With reference to the last paragraph of

Sir H.A.Blake's despatch No.76 of the 2nd. of March, I have

the honour to transmit, for your information, the enclosed

copy of a report by the Sanitary Surveyor to the Sanitary

: Board on the results of experiments made with a view to

destroying rats by introducing poisonous gas into sewers.

The experiments were not successful,

; and it is: not probable that rats in habit the glazed pipe

· sewers in this Colony.

Experiments were not made in Storm water

drains. which are neither air nor water tight.
